Tamre Deru

I graduated from York University, Glendon College, with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in French Studies, and a Bachelor of Education in French Immersion. My main focus of study was teaching History and French as a Second Language. After spending a few years in the classroom, I returned to University to complete a Master of Arts with a focus on Culture, Language and Identity in Education. As my focus and interest has been in student well-being, I have also completed Advanced qualifications in Guidance and Career studies.

I have been teaching in the classroom since 2014, though my teaching experience started when I was 16 and a swim instructor at my local community center. I began teaching in London, UK, in a secondary school. After two years, I returned to work in a Middle school in Peel District School Board. I paused to complete my Master’s degree, but have mainly taught grade 8 French.

My two main hobbies are reading and football (soccer). I really enjoy reading fiction, especially fantasy. My books have taken up so much space that I finally caved and got a Kobo! Most weekends, you find me watching my favorite football team, Arsenal. I played when I was in school but got into watching and supporting after living in London.
